I would like some helpful hints regarding our website: olivetchristianchurch.missouri.org. We are looking at some changes to it so I thought I might get some outside advice. I know one of the things I noticed is that we probably need pictures of people but the only thing that worries me about doing that is the security or privacy of it. Anyway I would like some input on what needs to be changed/added/deleted. We also would like to maybe put a link so the services could be listened to but I have no idea how to go about that. Suggestions? website: olivetchristianchurch.missouri.org Thanks, firstname.lastname@example.org
If you have pictures that you wish to put on your website that have people in them, then ask the people in the picture for their permission to publish the picture. For privacy reasons don't put names of those people that are in the picture. When I was the webmaster for my church we had a policy of no pictures of children on the website. If you need help with privacy issues the ask the minister or the church board to come up with a policy regarding what should and what should not go onto the website.
We have never had a flat out policy against using photos of children, I have always just made sure that the faces are not real visible and of course do not use full names. That is true for all names on the website - unless it is staff. Their names are readily available to the public in any case.
Many churches now have the audio and in some cases even video of services available. Those files do take up a lot of space so make sure you have enough available. Google Adding audio to your website and you will find lots of helpful information.
